Lost Wedding Ring

Bryian Saul, an IT manager from Edinburgh, looks for his wedding ring he lost Friday night while on the beach. "Drinking and valuables don't mix," he said as he combed Portabello beach with a metal detector he bought for 30 pounds. Saul moved to Edinburgh from New Zealand in February, saying that Scotland "has more history than back home."

Ohio University played host to its fourth annual Relay for Life benefit Friday and Saturday. Participants raised more than $82,000 for the American Cancer Society to fund research for the disease. Team members took turns walking around a track lined by luminaries, each marked with the name of someone who has had cancer.

Stock and teacher's aid Debi Chonkl plan for the care of an insulin-dependant student. Although not in her job description, Chonkl consults with the student's family daily and monitors the student's sugar level about 3 or 4 times during a school day. Chonkl is taking two days off of work in a couple of weeks, so Stock has to plan the student's care during Chonkl's absence. "I don't know what I'd do without her," Stock said.

Janalee Stock has been an Athens' City School nurse for 13 years. Stretching her skills among seven Athens City Public Schools, Stock spends much of the work week juggling medical emergencies with everyday scrapes and bruises. "Yes, it's hectic, but somebody's got to do the job," Stock said.
